In 1898 a British Sailor Emilius Le Roy envisioned an all-weather, indestructible jacket made of old recycled ship sails that were treated with oil. His first iteration that was dubbed the first ‘Driza-Bone’ unfortunately was pretty flammable due to the use of linseed oil.
Later, T.E Pearson who was the son of E.J Pearson and the founder of Pearson Soap brought a consignment of LeRoy coats to Australia to rework the proofing process. It is this excellent formula that we still use to proof our coats today.
Since 1898, Driza-Bone has become an Australian Icon being worn not only by stockmen but by politicians such as John Howard and George W Bush; Rockstars and models like Kate Moss and by the everyday Australian.
Whether it’s wearing one to drove a mob of sheep across the central plains or throwing one on to keep dry at the footy, there’s nothing more quintessentially Australian than wearing a Driza-Bone.
Our traditional Oilskin coats and jackets are made from sturdy 100% cotton that is coated with our uniquely formulated oil and wax finish to give the Oilskin its distinctive weatherproof and breathable character. As a specialised garment, the Driza-Bone Oilskin fabric needs special attention to maintain its weatherproofing qualities.
You can learn how to look after your Driza-Bone on our Garment Care page.

Over the moon with the coat and serviceI revived this as a bday present with the wool liner. We forgot to add the wool liner in at first and didn\’t receive it. One phone call to let them know about the mistake and it was at my door two days later! Love the coat, and over the moon with the service.
A great investmentThis Drizabone Jacket was a great purchase and investment. Quality is great and keeps you dry and warm, very happy with this product
Very happy with the service and the coatVery happy with my new Drovers Coat - it was even delivered within 3 days of placing the order! My previous Driza-Bone lasted 25 years - here's hoping this new one does the same!
Outlasted 4 cats, a dog and mortgage!Previously, I had [and still do] a brown Rider's Coat I bought when I lived in Santa Barbara, California, off a cremate from a racing yacht. Hence the oilskin. This has been my main cold-wet weather coat for 20 years. Frankly, I've gone through a half-dozen very expensive coats of 'finer' quality and nothing has held up like that coat. Hell, it outlasted a 15--yr marriage, 4 cats, a dog and a mortgage. But facts must be faced: I'm 20 years older and not as thermally-self-regulating - winters are technically warmer [Thanks Exxon!] but I get colder. I needed a newer, warmer coat. Also, I don't own a car - I take taxis or use public transit. In and out of seats where I need to keep all my iStuff in pockets near me. A shorter coat seemed like a good idea. I love and hate shopping. Most winter coats in my area are not particularly water-resistant, and the ones I can get in Newfoundland are too long and brightly coloured. So: To The Web!! Didn't take me long to find your site, shop, decide, and order. One week later, half a world away, I got my coat. I love this coat. Fits very comfortably, and with the wool liner it will easily keep me alive between one place and another, no matter how miserable the weather. Plus, it makes this 52-yr old vet look pretty sharp. If I could rate it more highly, I will, in 20 years. Assuming not dead.
Going 40 years strongJust as good as the long coat I bought 40 years ago and am still wearing.
