In 1898 a British Sailor Emilius Le Roy envisioned an all-weather, indestructible jacket made of old recycled ship sails that were treated with oil. His first iteration that was dubbed the first ‘Driza-Bone’ unfortunately was pretty flammable due to the use of linseed oil.

Later, T.E Pearson who was the son of E.J Pearson and the founder of Pearson Soap brought a consignment of LeRoy coats to Australia to rework the proofing process. It is this excellent formula that we still use to proof our coats today.

Since 1898, Driza-Bone has become an Australian Icon being worn not only by stockmen but by politicians such as John Howard and George W Bush; Rockstars and models like Kate Moss and by the everyday Australian.

Whether it’s wearing one to drove a mob of sheep across the central plains or throwing one on to keep dry at the footy, there’s nothing more quintessentially Australian than wearing a Driza-Bone.

Our traditional Oilskin coats and jackets are made from sturdy 100% cotton that is coated with our uniquely formulated oil and wax finish to give the Oilskin its distinctive weatherproof and breathable character. As a specialised garment, the Driza-Bone Oilskin fabric needs special attention to maintain its weatherproofing qualities.

You can learn how to look after your Driza-Bone on our Garment Care page.

  5. Induces envy among humans and dogs
    100%
I bought this jacket for my little Kelpie Dash. Although the size guide was a little misleading, we eventually ended up with a Medium for her, and she loves it! Very rugged and handsome looking, and keeps her warm on the coldest of nights while she is waiting for her Agility class. Induces much envy among humans and other dogs.

  7. Dog coats are great in cold and wet conditions
    100%
Hi my name is Kim Suckling, I recently purchased three Driza-Bone Ashfield Dog Coats for a lady by the name of Kathy who lives in Memphis Tennessee. She has three Basset Hounds called Barney, Herbie & Webster. My wife come across Kathy from her You Tube site as she posts a short video daily on her three boys. Anyway we had recently lost our eleven & half year old Basset Harry & Kathy's videos really helped my wife Louise get through her grieving. One of Kathy's videos showed the Bassets out the back of her house in the snow & my wife thought how good it would be, to be able to send them a Driza-Bone wool lined jacket each to keep them warm as we have had two of the jackets previously for our two deceased Bassets, Fred & Harry & we really love these dog coats. We had purchased a new one for our boy Harry just before he passed away last year, even though the old one we had purchased years ago was still in good condition as they seem to last forever & the older they get the better they seem to get. By the way we have since got ourselves a new Basset Hound also called Webster named after his American name sake. He can now wear Harry's Driza-Bone once he grows into it. Any way we purchased three of your dog jackets & had them sent directly to Memphis where we have now herd back from Kathy & she is so happy with these jackets. She has also posted a couple of videos of them in there new jackets. When she received the jackets she had her mother over with her two Basset Hounds, Huckelberry & Finley & when she was opening the parcel & giving the dogs there jackets we felt so sorry for her mothers dogs as they missed out so we have just ordered another two & have had them also sent directly, so hopefully they will arrive in another week. They are so funny with these jackets as they call them the Australian outback jackets. When I emailed Kathy I explained to her all about the Driza-Bone products & how all the Australian Stockman wore these Jackets in the Snowy Mountains & the Australian outback & how they were great in the wet & snow & cold conditions. You would be so happy with the comments she got back from people from her You Tube video as everyone wanted to know where she got them even from England. So hopefully you will get some more orders. So I hope you receive this review & if you can send me an email I would like to send you a couple of her videos with the Bassets with there new Driza-Bone jackets. Kind regards, Kim & Louise Suckling Perth, Western Australia. Email, kimbo77@iinet.net.au

  8. Fantastic product
    100%
Fantastic product! I bought this product for my "grand -dog" Svea who lives in Sweden. She loves it and gets very excited as soon as she sees "Nana Gordon's" coat.. She knows it means she is going out to play in the snow and will be snug and warm and, as far as we know, the only pooch in Stockholm to own one! Many people have commented on her Driza-bone coat and ask where they can get one
