In 1898 a British Sailor Emilius Le Roy envisioned an all-weather, indestructible jacket made of old recycled ship sails that were treated with oil. His first iteration that was dubbed the first ‘Driza-Bone’ unfortunately was pretty flammable due to the use of linseed oil.

Later, T.E Pearson who was the son of E.J Pearson and the founder of Pearson Soap brought a consignment of LeRoy coats to Australia to rework the proofing process. It is this excellent formula that we still use to proof our coats today.

Since 1898, Driza-Bone has become an Australian Icon being worn not only by stockmen but by politicians such as John Howard and George W Bush; Rockstars and models like Kate Moss and by the everyday Australian.

Whether it’s wearing one to drove a mob of sheep across the central plains or throwing one on to keep dry at the footy, there’s nothing more quintessentially Australian than wearing a Driza-Bone.

Our traditional Oilskin coats and jackets are made from sturdy 100% cotton that is coated with our uniquely formulated oil and wax finish to give the Oilskin its distinctive weatherproof and breathable character. As a specialised garment, the Driza-Bone Oilskin fabric needs special attention to maintain its weatherproofing qualities.

You can learn how to look after your Driza-Bone on our Garment Care page.

  2. Good garment but arrived creased. Expect better
    60%
Fits well however the fabric has been creased across the rump and the crease will not come out. Tried applying heat but all this achieved was to take some of the oil out. The deep crease remains in the fabric. For this price I expected better quality checked garment.

  3. Utterly delighted with the service, the coat and the packaging
    100%
I was only thinking of you folk today :) I am utterly delighted with the dog coat you supplied to me. I was impressed with the speed of your service, deeply impressed with the quality of the packaging you supplied it in (strong cardboard), and extremely happy with the quality, and quality control of the garment itself. I looked at it. . . quite closely. Nary a loose or stray thread to be found, all the stitching faultless -- worth evert cent that I paid for it. .... I am proudly talking this product, and your company, up to all my family and friends, and anyone I meet out on dog-walks. Thankyou to all involved Sincerely Ian McDonald

  6. Understrap on dog coat needs an extension
    80%
I love this jacket and we live in a very wet area but unfortunately the under strap does not fit my malamute. I did call and see if there was and extension available but unfortunately not. So I have had to pay a local canvas place to extend his new jacket.

  7. Fantastic products that last a lifetime
    100%
This is the second Driza-Bone jacket that we have bought from you. We purchased one from you about 15 years ago for our first Basset Hound & it is still going strong. We thought we would get another one for our other Basset hound as the old jacket was getting a bit long in the tooth but still in good condition. We didn't realise that we could get the Oilskin Reproofer so we also purchased a bottle of that & the old jacket has come up like new, so our dog now has two Driza-Bone jackets, one for going out in the rain in winter for walks & one for just going out to look very smart. Your products are fantastic as they really do last a long time & keep there appearance for ever, in fact some times the older & more worn they are the better they look. We often get a lot of comments on his Driza-Bone & we tell everyone where they can get one. Thank you for a great product & thank you from our dog Harry.

  8. Love the dog coat but need it longer
    100%
The dog coat is great however I have a very deep chested dog so it’s a bit short along the sides and there is not enough of the Velcro strap to properly secure it. Another couple of inches either side would be perfect. Length is good. Love the collar

  10. Dog coats should come in different widths
    60%
This jacket fits along the back of my dog however around her belly it is far too large. Pity they don't come in different width sizes as well as length.
